Position Summary

We are hiring a Building Maintenance Technician to join our maintenance team to assist primarily with restaurant operations under the direction of the Chief Engineer. The Building Maintenance Technician will be inspecting different equipment and performing basic repairs or preventative maintenance as required. To succeed in this position, you should have experience in maintenance, be skilled with various hand and power tools, have a keen attention to detail, ability to follow established procedures and excel in the ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical problems. The normal weekday hours for this position is Monday thru Friday 8:00 am until 4:30 pm with some after hours and on-call work as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the safety and health of all who enter upon the premises of the restaurant and property including its co-workers, customers and subcontractors by placing as his or her top priority the maintenance of the property including the building, fire and life safety equipment and its procedures for dealing with all types of emergencies.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area free of hazards and performs daily patrols of building and grounds looking for damaged electrical fixtures, inoperable lights and any other mechanical, plumbing or electrical equipment that may be operating improperly causing an unsafe or unhealthy condition.
  • Monitor the level and quality of services performed by outside contractors in accordance with all lease agreements, service contracts and warranties. Maintains accurate records including serial numbers on all equipment. Ensures implementation of ongoing preventative maintenance program and keeps accurate monthly records of services performed according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Restaurant plumbing repairs up to and including replacing and repairing PVC, Copper and PEX.
  • Replace PTAC (heating/cooling units) in hotel guest rooms.
  • Painting ceilings/walls or cleaning HVAC registers using an 8' step ladder.
  • Cleaning out gutters outside on buildings suing a 28' extension ladder
  • Cleaning hard surface in common areas of restaurant using a large floor scrubber or mop and bucket as necessary.
  • Light electrical work including changing bulbs or ballasts and troubleshooting common electrical faults with a multimeter.
  • Sweeping and mopping as necessary.
  • Cleaning windows and ceiling light fixtures.
  • Clearing snow from walkways including shoveling as needed.
  • Service ventilation fans that are ceiling mounted and/or above ceiling tile heights
  • Proven maintenance experience.
  • Maintain on-site water system for non-public water system.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to identify and replace defective part(s).
  • Strong time management, organizational and follow up skills.
  • Professional presentation and attitude.
  • Ability to maintain focus while working independently.
  • Functions as part of the Manager-On-Duty (MOD) Program Team for maintenance related issues as directed.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills including competent use of computers, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • 2+ years of prior maintenance experience, preferable in a hospitality or institutional setting.
  • Must be organized, able to prioritize, multi-task, follow established rules, and take direction.
  • Possess basic knowledge of workplace safety and OSHA procedures
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Professional licenses or certificates such as HVAC EPA certification are desired but not required.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pound not to exceed 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high places and is occasionally exposed to high heat. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
